Electronic Diesel Control (Bosch)

The electronic control of a diesel engine provides for precise and selective adjustment of the fuel-injection settings. A new diesel engine can only manage all of the demands placed on it in this manner.

As you may already know, mainly, Bosch EDC has 3 different categories:
EDC 15   EDC 16  EDC 17

EDC15

Bosch EDC 15 is a fuel-based engine control system that is being used in Diesel engines for the first time. However, EDC 15 is made up of an ECU that analyses data from numerous sensors and then controls the injectors at the appropriate time.

It also controls the pressure regulator, the electro valve for recycling exhaust gases, and the pressure-modulating electro-valve for turbocharging.

EDC16

Bosch EDC 16 and 17 are torque-based engine control systems that are being used in a diesel engine for the first time. As with petrol engines, all torque demands are gathered, assessed, and coordinated in the engine control unit in the EDC 16 system.

This provides the advantage of improved flexibility across individual vehicle systems (engine management, braking system, automatic transmission, air conditioning, and so on).

Bosch introduced the new Electronic Diesel Control EDC-16 engine management system in the V10-TDI and R5 TDI engines.
The Bosch EDC 16 engine management system is also intended to work as a single or dual control unit system. The actual notion employed is determined by the number of cylinders in the engine.

EDC17

EDC17 is a brand-new emission standard for EURO 5 and 6. The EDC 17 engine management system expands on the EDC 16. The EDC 17 differs from the EDC 16 in terms of performance and memory capacity. Furthermore, it enables the integration of control functions for future technologies.

The Electronic Diesel Control (EDC) monitors all critical parameters for efficient, low-emission combustion.

Because the new EDC17’s computational capability and functional scope can be tailored to specific requirements, it can be deployed in any vehicle category in worldwide markets.

It not only controls the precise time and quantity of injection, exhaust gas recirculation, and manifold pressure management, but it also has numerous other choices, such as regulating particle filters or nitrogen oxide reduction systems.

Furthermore, the Bosch EDC17 calculates the injection parameters for each cylinder and, if necessary, performs individual adjustments.
