Yes, as You know, the immobilizer or anti-theft system verifies that the key used to turn the engine on is the correct one.
If the key is not the correct one, this system blocks different actions to prevent the car from starting.
The car’s computer will disable, the fuel pump, the ignition coil and/or the injectors, and depending on the electronic immobilizer system, it could also block the steering column which will lock the steering wheel.

PATS before 1998
PATS is not part of the central locking nor alarm system! The red LED is used for both, the alarm and the PATS !
Three keys, a red master key, and 2 slave keys
ONLY the red Master key, X, puts the ford into programming mode, which mode allows additional 2 more slave keys, Y, to be programmed, without using any machine!
It’s advisable to better keep the red master key, X, safe at home, only the slave black keys Y should be in daily use! …just in case Y is lost, hakuna matata🤷♂️!
Programming new keys
1. Master key, X, must be available!
2. Insert X into ignition and turn to position II. When the red LED comes on, switch off and remove that master key X.
3. The LED goes off and then comes on for 2 seconds. PATS is now in programming mode for the next ten seconds.
4. Insert the new slave key, Y. The LED will come on and go off to confirm that the key has been programmed. Switch off and remove the new key.
In the event that the red master key is lost, then HAPA UJANJA tu!
Fault Finding
Although the red LED is used for the alarm and the PATS systems, PATS has priority, and the LED can be used for fault diagnosis.
The LED should always go out about three seconds after ignition on.
If there are less than three keys programmed into the PATS module, the LED will stay on for one minute with the engine running!
…but if the LED flashes after that then careful attention should be paid because it may be a fault code.
If the LED illuminates for 4 seconds but the engine does not crank, PATS is working correctly and there is a fault elsewhere.
If the LED illuminates for 4 seconds, the engine cranks but does not start, PATS is working correctly and the fault lies elsewhere.
If the engine starts normally but the LED stays on, wait for one minute. This is showing that there are less than 3 keys programmed into PATS. One or more keys need to be programmed to stop this code.

PATS configurations after 1998
Different FORD vehicles, depending, could be using multiple modules, ECUs, for PATS system!
PATS modules you can expect to be participating include;
• PCM (Powertrain Control Module) • IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) • ABS (Anti Blocking Brake System) • BCM (Body Control Module) • RFA (Remote Function Actuator) • TCM (Transmission Control Unit) • and many others, depending on vehicle setup! Those participating ECUs need to contain same vehicle security data. For example, if using a longer route, You may get a copy of the key data from Instrument cluster!
Otherwise, You may need certain password to login into NATS, to be able do perform certain configurations to any of those modules participating in the NATS ! ClickHERE on how where to get the password, …otherwise some OBD machines help You hack passed this security access!

This PATS configuration, needs at least 2 keys registered in the system, and a maximum of 8 keys can be registered!
When You succeed logging into PATS; You may want remove some keys from the system, they could be lost or… You may want add other spare keys to that PATS, You may want know the number of keys in that PATS system!
When You Select to Erase Keys, either; You have all the wanted keys available, to be able delete the unwanted keys, or may be all keys are lost, that You want register newer ones!
Remember, this PATS needs at least 2 keys in the system! So when You erase, make sure You have at least two blank keys available to replace those to be deleted!
In a case of all keys lost, You just have only one new key, assuming that if NATS has an blank spare to accommodate one key, just select ADD KEY Then that one key added will start that FORD! You can add as many as….. ONYO:
With a OBD Diagnosis machine, in case of lost keys, You can ADD keys! Without using a machines, to ADD keys manually, You need the two programmed keys to be physically available!
Programming ujanja!
1. Place first already programmed key in the keyway. Turn the ignition from OFF to ON(RUN) for at least 1 second and, then switch to OFF.
2. Within 5 seconds, insert the second already programmed key in the keyway. Turn the ignition from OFF to ON(RUN) for at least 1 second and, then switch to OFF.
3. Within 10 seconds of turning the ignition lock cylinder to OFF, insert the new key into the keyway. Turn the ignition from OFF to ON(RUN) for at least 1 second and, then switch to OFF.
The theft indicator light should go on for three seconds, after which the key will start the vehicle.
Repeat this process, from the beginning, for each new key to be programmed.
But remember NOT everyElectronic Control Module is included, but several ECU‘s, inshaÁllah🤞
